What Is Orthopaedic Urgent Care?

Orthopaedic urgent care is intended for treating trauma to the musculoskeletal system, including the bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Common orthopaedic injuries that may require urgent care include the following:

While these types of trauma often send people to the ER or an urgent care center, there are numerous benefits to seeking orthopaedic urgent care.

Why Visit Us for Orthopaedic Urgent Care

Our experienced team is available all day at our five convenient locations in Irving, Southlake, Flower Mound, Alliance, and Argyle. Providing top-quality care is our highest priority at All-Star Orthopaedics, and one of the many ways we deliver on this goal is by ensuring every patient sees a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. Our team of extensively trained medical professionals is dedicated to patient-focused approaches, and that begins at the top, with the physician.

If you have an urgent orthopaedic problem, our team is proud to offer swift and direct access to our elite group of orthopaedic surgeons. By seeing our team for immediate orthopaedic care—versus an ER or other urgent care facility—you can expect the following benefits:

Please note: if you experience an orthopaedic injury after-hours or have a life-threatening injury, please visit your nearest ER.

How Does the Cost of Orthopaedic Urgent Care Compare to ERs?

You will not have to worry about paying more for an urgent visit at our practice. Instead, you can expect normal fees as if you had scheduled an appointment far in advance. ER costs are often excessive and can become a significant financial burden for many people. Our goal is to provide you with focused care for your specific needs, without extra fees for getting the timely care you need. In addition to not getting billed at ER rates, our doctors are in-network with all major insurance providers. This allows you to get the maximum coverage possible under your plan.

Seeing a Doctor vs. a Mid-Level Medical Care Provider

When you visit All-Star Orthopaedics, you are always seen by a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. While mid-level providers (MLPs), such as nurse practitioners (NP) and physician assistants (PA), can provide excellent care and are accredited by licensing bodies, their scope of practice is more restricted than that of the physician. NPs and PAs are also called Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and the term used depends on the institution and preference of the individual.

What Is the Role of a Physician Assistant in Orthopaedics?

When it comes to the role of a PA, they are an integral part of orthopaedic care, and they serve as an extension to the surgeon. While PAs can technically provide all the same pre- and post-operative treatment as a licensed orthopaedic surgeon, they should always be working under the direct guidance of the physician. As mid-level providers, PAs serve as intermediaries between patients and physicians, supporting as needed.

There are many reasons why a practice might choose to utilize MLPs rather than a physician. Some examples may include scheduling issues, the number of patients in need of care, and economic factors. Mid-level providers can be very skilled and knowledgeable, and we have some of the best-trained mid-level providers available as part of our team, but nothing can take the place of the doctor.

All of our patients are under the direct care of an orthopaedic surgeon, with assistance from our PAs as deemed appropriate by the physician.
